Klaus Peter Murawski

State Minister

Klaus-Peter Murawski

  • Staatssekretär Klaus-Peter Murawski

Klaus-Peter Murawski is State Minister and as Head of the State Chancellery is in charge of the State Ministry.

Klaus-Peter Murawski was born in 1950 in Erfurt and spent his early teenage years in what was then the GDR. In 1960 he escaped with his parents from the GDR to the Federal Republic. Following A-levels at the classical New Grammar School in Nuremberg, Murawski studied the subjects of political science, sociology, German, history and law at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Murawski began his professional career as a commercial manager in a family business. In 1992, he was appointed Deputy Mayor of the town of Nuremberg with responsibility for public health, hospitals and veterinary matters.

From 1996 to 2011, in his role of Deputy Mayor in the state capital Stuttgart, Murawski was responsible for general administration and hospitals; among other things, he expanded the citizens’ information offices in all parts of the city and reorganised and improved the hospitals.

In May 2011 Klaus-Peter Murawski was appointed State Secretary and Head of the State Chancellery in the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg. At the beginning of the new parliamentary term, on 12 May 2016 Minister-President Kretschmann gave him the post of State Minister and entrusted him with additional duties. He represents the head of government in the State Ministry. Under his direction, preparations are made together with heads of department prior to the weekly cabinet meeting. Agreeing on matters within the state, but also with the other federal states – Baden-Württemberg with its green-black coalition government having a special role – is a particular challenge which Murawski greatly enjoys tackling.

In spite of such a long time spent in Stuttgart, Murawski has not given up his home in Nuremberg – he has retained his family roots there.
