Bärbl Mielich is state secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.
Bärbl Mielich was born on 22 May 1952 in Wuppertal. After gaining her secondary school leaving certificate at the Bocholt Grammar School in 1969, Mielich trained as a nursery nurse at a school for social education between 1969 and 1972. From 1972 until 1974 she worked as a nursery nurse in an (all-)day care centre. Between 1974 and 1978 she completed studies in social education at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf/Kaiserswerth.
In 2002 Bärbl Mielich completed further training as a family mediator and, working in this role, ran her own practice from 2002 to 2008.
Since 2006 she has been a member of the parliamentary Green Party in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament. From 2006 to 2016 she was spokeswoman for health policy for her parliamentary party; from 2011 to 2016 she was also chair of the social committee of the state parliament.
Since 2016, Bärbl Mielich has been state secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.
Bärbl Mielich is married and has three grown-up children and also two grandchildren.
